Another Honda Main Relay
Q. Hello Vincent Ciulla, thank you for such a good web site about auto repairs. After reading an article about Honda Main Relays. I am trying to troubleshoot an intermittent not start and engine dashboard check engine light staying on. (mainly when summer hot days). Any clues please!
The car: 1989 Honda Civic DX, 1500cc engine, automatic transmission. Almost 200,000 miles on odometer. Honda dealers technical services bulletins do not mention anything about it, unless i missed it. And I am not sure about where I could find a good troubleshooting chart about these symptoms!
Sincerely, Carl
A. There has never been, to my knowledge, a TSB on the Main EFI Relay. The procedure for checking the relay is in that article. If you do the test in the order I outlined, you should be able to determine if the main relay is the problem or not.
With the Check Engine (MIL) liight on, I would pull the codes from the computer ans see what they are. This will aid you in your troubleshooting.
