Jetta Alternator
Q. VW Jetta 1984 1.7 liter Engine. I Need to know how to remove the alternator and what tools are required. This car has no air conditioner.
A. That's pretty easy to do on this engine. There's a bolt on the bottom that you need a 17mm wrench or socket for. Then there's the adjusting bolt that's a 13mm. You'll need an 8 or 10mm socket to remove the power lead from the back of the alternator as well. Of course you'll need a 13mm wrench to remove the negative battery cable before you even start to remove the alternator.
It's pretty straightforward. It should only take you about an hour to do.
