Acura A/C Details

Q. Hi: I have a 1990 Acura Integra, Auto, 4-door LS, with A/C. I am going to replace my A/C compressor. I retrofitted my A/C a year ago to R-134a, now the compressor is dead so I am going to install a rebuilt compressor. I want to know how much oil to add to the compressor and what is the total oil charge for the system? Also, how much R-134a should I add? Any information will be useful.

Thank You!

A. Okay, I can give you general information about the A/C system in your car, but for specific details you should check the A/C decal under the hood.

When replacing the compressor, drain one ounce of oil from the replacement compressor prior to installation. When replacing other components, add oil as follows:

Condenser: 1/3 ounce
Evaporator: One ounce
Lines: 1/3 ounce for each line
Receiver-drier: 1/3 ounce

Assuming the replacement compressor is the same as the original, the system will take 32 to 34 ounces of refrigerant. Again, check the under hood decal for specific amounts.
