Kia Pride Dies With The A/C On
Q. Hi, I am a U.S. Army soldier stationed in Korea. I own a 1992 Kia Pride. I am told that it was sold as a Ford Fiesta in the states. It has a 1.3 liter engine with manual transmission and fuel injection with a little over 200,000 kilometers on the odometer. My Problem is that when I turn on the A/C the idle falls to the point where the car stalls.
Summer in Korea is sweltering and the humidity is almost always 100% so I really want to fix the problem. What should I be looking for? I have been told there is a solenoid that regulates the idle when the A/C is on. If that is so where is it on the darn thing?
Thanks,
MichaelA. The Idle Speed Control By-Pass Air (ISC-BPA) valve controls idle speed by regulating quantity of throttle plate by-pass air. This permits control of cold engine fast idle, no touch start, hot engine idle speed, and engine idle load corrections.
When you turn the A/C on, it sends a signal to the PCM and in turn the PCM opens the ISC-BPA which raises the idle speed. The ISC-BPA is located next to the distributor. Chances are good this is what's causing the problem.
