Kat's Krazy Kar
Q. Hi, I'm Kat, and I own a 1968 Ford Mustang with brake light trouble. My car was recently stolen, but thankfully she was recovered. (Yes I refer to my car as she, who doesn't?) No horrible damage was done to it, however the people who stole her, well, actually kidnapped her, screwed up the wiring on the ignition switch and messed with the wiring harness.
I fixed that problem, but now my brake lights don't work, nor my emergency flashers or the turn signals. The thing is, is that it's all in the rear. The rear brake lights don't come on at all, except when you have the headlights on. The front turn signals and emergency flashers work, just not in the rear. I don't think it's the brake light switch, since I replaced it before she got stolen. I bought another one just in case, but I don't want to replace it until I know for sure I need to. (Going under the dash is not my favorite thing to do).
I was also wondering if it has anything to do with the ignition wires or anything like that. I'm really anxious to fix this problem. It's extremely bothersome. If you could, please help me. This is driving me insane. Oh, I also checked the bulbs; they work fine, in fact they're new as well. Well, any advice you give me would help me tremendously.
Thank you. A distressed Mustang owner,
KatA. First off Kat, let me tell you how lucky you are you got the car back. 1968 Mustangs are a very desirable car, to say the least.
Since the signals and flashers work in the front, it's safe to assume the problem is in the harness going to the rear. I don't have schematics for this car so I can't look it up and suggest a starting point to look.
I would look for a connector that's not plugged in or a cut harness. I would think it would be fairly close to the area that was damaged so that's where I would start looking. It's just a matter of looking to find it.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific for you but let me know how you make out.
