Bucking Ranger

Q. I have a 1985 Ford Ranger, 2.3 liter, F.I. 5 speed manual, over 100,000 miles. It runs fine when accelerating or decelerating, but when you hold the accelerator at cruising speed, it jerks erratically.

Thanks for any help,
Ray.

A. I think the problem is in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). This is a common symptom of a bad sensor. If you have a service manual you can check it easy enough. If you don't, go to the library and photo copy the procedure. It takes about ten minutes to test and you will know for sure.
