Chevrolet Cavalier Low Heat Output

Q. My mother-in-law has a 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier with a 2.2 liter 4 cylinder engine and about 37,000 miles. She's owned it since it was brand new. As you can see this car has not been driven hard. The heat output from the heater is "lukewarm" at best. I have replaced the thermostat as I thought the old one may have been stuck open. But this has not solved the problem.

Chevrolet Cavalier Low Heat Output

The fan blower works okay. The temperature gauge on the instrument cluster shows that the engine is not reaching normal operating temperature. What do you think the problem might be?

Thanks...

A. One of the nipples for the heater hoses may be restricted. I've also seen these get clogged evaporator cores. I mean clogged from air flow. If the air flow isn't up to par, you can pull the blower motor out and try to clean the core of lint and leaves.
