Pontiac Grand Prix Bites The Dust

Q. Dear Vincent, I've seen you on TV and read your articles at About.com, please help me. My engine popped and stopped. I had been checking the oil, went on a trip to Austin 1/10/04, car ran well and no oil/engine light ever came on. It had been hesitant with white smoke coming out the exhaust after I helped someone at work "jump" their van.

Pontiac Grand Prix Bites The Dust

The oil light never came on until the car popped and stopped. Towed to the house. Oil was put in it yesterday and drained out onto the driveway. It's a 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix, 59,800 original miles, quad four engine. Will I be able to repair it soon?

I have another car, also not running, 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88, 307 engine. It threw a rod. After it clacked rapidly. Is this one fixable? Please respond and shed some light.

Thank you,
Loretta

A. As for the Oldsmobile, there is no fixing that engine, it will need to be replaced.

As for the Pontiac, from what you describe it sounds like it is in much the same condition as the Oldsmobile. I would let a shop put it up on the lift and take a look at it to be sure.

I'm very curious, Where did you see me on TV?
