Blazer has A Rotten Clutch

Q. I had the transmission rebuilt, the clutch rebuilt and the clutch master and slave cylinders replaced. Also, I might add, a rebuilt long block installed. he motor was replaced in May and the #2 lifter was replaced in September. The clutch was rebuilt in May and again in October. The slave and master cylinders were replaced in August and again this month. The transmission was rebuilt this month too. It has had a continuous leak near the bell housing. The shop said it was the slave cylinder. Yesterday I picked my truck up again from the shop. It is very difficult to shift and the clutch free play is extremely short. I have no confidence in these guys so I am taking it to the Chevy dealer later this week. Ever since they changed out the master and slave (the first time) the clutch just has not been right.

Also, I complained of a loud noise and vibration when the revs are up. I mean loud! They said it was my transmission. Forked out $1,000.00 for that. But, the noise is still there. The shop said, "oh, that's the exhaust". I pointed out to them that when they put my motor in they also replaced the exhaust from the cat backwards. They showed me the transmission main input shaft, it had a chipped gear tooth.

So, I have 2 problems (could be one): engaging gears and short clutch free play and the noise. I banged around under the truck and could not find any loose components. The vibrations from the loud noise can be felt in the clutch and throttle pedals. Don't really feel it in the stick shift.

I have spent over $5,000.00 bucks with these guys and my truck runs like crap. Not to mention it has been sitting in their shop for about 30 days in the last 6 months. I am about to take them to court. They are a certified NAPA repair center.

I have the following vehicle:
1988 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4
2.8L V6 with TBI

Anyways, I hope you have some ideas for me.
Thank you so much.
Jim

A. From my first reading of your question, I was going to say that the new clutch master and slave was not bled or bled properly. But after rereading it, I'm starting to think the problem is either a bent input shaft or input shaft bearings. Somehow I get the feeling that the two problems are not related. I believe that there were two different throw out bearings for that truck, a long one and a short one. If it takes the long one and they put in a short one, then you will have a low clutch pedal.

It's difficult for me to come up with possibilities without driving the truck, but I think I'm pretty close. When you take it in, please, let me know what they find.
