Cutlass Noise On Turning

Q. Dear Mr. Ciulla, I have a problem with my 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Sedan. Whenever I turn the steering wheel left or right, there is a loud squealing noise. I believe that it may be a loose power steering belt, but I'm not positive. If you could please give me any information on what the problem might be, I would be very grateful. Please e-mail me back as soon as possible. I need my car to be running before college starts.

Thank you very much,
Tyler

A. You may have a serpentine belt that runs all the accessories. It's possible that the tensioner is bad or maybe the pump is loose. Also, you may have something on the belt making the noise. Leaking oil?
