Caprice Blower Motor Resistor
Q. Dear Vincent, I have a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice. My problem is: The heater and air-conditioner fan motor speeds will only run on high. The other three speeds will do nothing.
My question is: My fan motor will run only in the high position with the switches on high.
I replaced the switch, but it still only runs on high. I am aware that there are resistors in the circuit to control the first three speeds of the motor. My problem is that I do not know where they are physically located on the car. If it turns out not to be the resistors, is there any other part that operates with the fan blower motor? Vincent, I would appreciate any information that you could give me on this matter. Thank you so very much!
Sincerely,
ThomasA. A burnt resistor is very possible. It should be near the blower motor as it blows on it to keep it cool. They are usually mounted in the blower case and have 4-6 wires to them. Held in by a couple of screws. Also could be melted wires at switch plug or between it and motor/resistor.
