Smoking Eldorado

Q. Hi Vincent: My 1990 Eldorado blows white smoke if it is running for over 5 minutes. As soon as I leave the smoke disappears and so does the smell. Someone mentioned a clogged return hose? Isn't everybody a certified mechanic?

I would appreciate knowing how much this one is going to cost me.

Thanks
Dee

A. If it is indeed white smoke, and not blue, it is an indication of a head gasket(s) going bad. If the smoke has a sweet kind of smell, then it is anti-freeze. If it is blue and has an acrid smell to it, then it's oil and probably bad valve seals.

If this has started just when the weather got colder, it may be normal condensation.

If it is the head gaskets, you're looking at about $1000.00 to $1200.00 to have them replaced.
