Subaru Legacy Climate Control Quit

Q. I have a 1991 Subaru Legacy with climate control. About two months ago I replaced the alternator and the air conditioner and heater stopped working. Since it is a climate control system the heater won't work unless the air conditioner is working. I recharged the system but still not working. What could be the problem?

A. The Automatic Climate Control (ACC) has a self diagnostic function. Here is the test procedure.

  1. Start engine.
  2. Ground self-diagnosis test lead.
  3. Start self-diagnosis. To shift from one step to another, use HOT and COLD switches on temperature control button. Each step checks a different function of the system.

When you get the codes, let me know and we can go from there.
