Eldorado Horns
Q. I checked my 20 amp fuse and it is fine however, my horn will not work what can it be? Also I would like to try to fix my horn myself can you give me any hints as to have to do it? If not what am I looking at to repair this as this is dangerous to drive without one. Please advise. I just bought this car, 1990 Cadillac Eldorado .
Thanks,
DeeA. This is fairly easy to check. Since there are two horns and the likelihood of both horns going bad at the same time are small, the problem is probably in the horn relay.
Go into the relay center under the hood and locate the horn relay. It should be marked as such. Check the two orange wires for power. There should be 12 volts there at all times.
If you do have power there, check the dark green wire next. There should be 12 volts there when you press the horn button. If there is, then there is a broken wire between the relay and the horns, or, both horns are bad. Run a jumper wire from the orange wire to the dark green wire and the horns should blow.
If there is no power when the horn button is pressed, clip a test light on the POSITIVE (+) side of the battery and the probe end to the black wire. The light should light when you press the horn button. If it doesn't, then you have a bad horn button or the wire between the relay and the horn button is broken.
If everything checks out, replace the horn relay.
