Taurus Low Gas Milage

Q. I own a 1999 Ford Taurus 24 valve DOHC 3.0. The car usually gets 320 kilometers (200 miles) to a tank. The gas mileage is terrible. Is this normal for this car? The car has 59,000 kilometers (36,660 miles) and is still under warranty for another 1,000 kilometers. Is there anything Ford has done to address this problem?

Thanks,
Lawrence

A. That's only about 12.5 miles to the gallon. That's not so good. First I would make sure you're driving in the proper gear. The shift quadrant has the following positions: P. R. N. (D), D and 1. Make sure you are driving in the (D) range as that will allow Over Drive operation at highway speeds and is most fuel efficient.

If that is correct, then you should take it to Ford and have them inspect all the engine and transmission controls for proper operation. Something is wrong somewhere and needs to be corrected. There are no current TSBs that address this problem.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but there's just way too many things that can affect fuel milage.
