Did I Do That??
Q. I tried to extract Check Engine light codes using the methods in the Haynes Mercury Villager & Nissan Quest 1993 thru 1998 (64200). I shorted the two pins for 2 seconds reconnected the connector and waited for codes. After receiving no codes turned off key turned back on still no lights on instrument panel.
Now the engine won't start, it turns over but doesn't start. I then tried to just reset the codes to no avail. Disconnected the battery cables for an hour still no lights on panel. I didn't see any warnings in the book about this happening so I really have no clue what I could have did to cause this. Is there anyway to reset the computer (PCM) or is it possible that I could have broken the computer using these steps? If there is any information at all you can give me on this I would greatly appreciate it.

WilmerA. I hope the two wires you jumped were the blue/white and blue wires.
Here is the proper procedure for pulling codes without a scan tool:
- Key ON
- Disconnect diagnostic connector in the engine compartment.
- Jump the blue/white and blue wires.
- Wait two seconds.
- Remove the jumper and reconnect the diagnostic connector.
- Record DTCs by reading the MIL.
The PCM can be reset, but only with the use of the Ford scan tool. It is possible that if you jumped the wrong wires to damage the PCM.
