302 In A Boat

Q. I have 1977 Ford 302 in a boat W/OMC outdrive, it has a Holley 2 barrel Carb, I am replacing the Fuel Pump which I didn't remove, I don't know which side is inlet side of pump. Has an AC Fuel pump now. With a # like 41414. Thank You

A. That is the correct pump for that application. Usually the inlet and outlet is marked, but since you are asking me, I guess they aren't. It's been a lot of years since I worked at the marina so I don't remember exactly which is which. There is a way to determine which is the inlet. First mount the pump on the engine and place a finger over each port. Have someone turn over the engine and see which one sucks. That would be the inlet. Then hook up the fuel line and crank the engine again. It should pump fuel out. Then just hook up the line to the carb and you'll be set.

If I do remember correctly, the rearmost port on the pump is the intake.
