Mercury Cougar Shifting Funny
Q. Hi, I got a 1999 Mercury Cougar V-6 front wheel drive. Every once in a while over the past year when I gun it I would have no power. Now just recently my transmission seems to be acting up as it doesn't shift into gears very well. I was wondering if you had any ideas. It runs fine in two manual and not in one manual.
It doesn't downshift well neither. There is a round hole on the left side of my transmission and it seems to be slowly leaking. The hole has a good two inch diameter and a "C" ring holds it in there.
Please help,
SeanA. The first thing I suggest you try is a fluid and filter change. It may just be a clogged transmission filter causing your problems.
If you have many miles on the car, a complete service including a tune-up and replacing all the filters will help eliminate this being an engine problem that looks like a transmission problem.
I think the "hole" you are referring to is the Overdrive Servo Rod and Piston Assembly.
