Grand Prix Stumbles And Stalls

Q. My car is a 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix, V6 3.liter, Auto trans., over 100,000 mi., fuel injected, ABS brakes, with P/S and A/C.

My problem is that my car has a very low idle, it will sometimes shudder when I am accelerating, it dies on me sometimes when I am at a light, in park and one time it did it when I was at a low speed. Also it will not start for me all the time, but if I let it sit for an hour or two and try again it will start right up. For example I drive to work, which is about a half a mile away and park it and if I go back to start it a half an hour later it won't start. But if I let it sit for about two hours it will start just fine but it will still have the shuddering acceleration. Can you please tell me what is wrong with my car? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Sincerely,
Marc

A. It sounds like you have one or more cylinders that are not firing. It could also be something in the fuel injection system that is malfunctioning. Since you don't mention the check engine light coming on, I'm going to assume that it is okay.

As always I would suggest a good tune up with cap, rotor and wires. before you start looking for something you need to know that the basics are good. You can spend hours trying to find a problem and then kick yourself when you find it was simply a bad plug wire.
