His Wife Cracked Her Case

Q. Vince, my wife's automatic transmission casing in cracked. Is there a fix for this? Can it be welded, or an epoxy be used?

Thanks,
Jim

His Wife Cracked Her Case

A. You can try draining the transmission and cleaning the area of the crack as clean as possible. Then try applying a two part epoxy such as Liquid Steel® to the crack and let it set up according to the label directions. Sanding the area with emory cloth will help the epoxy adhere to the case better. For this to have any chance of working the area has to be free of any transmission fluid or dirt. Clean is the keyword here.

If it doesn't work, I wouldn't recommend welding since it may damage the transmission internally.
