S-10 Bouncing Idle
Q. I'm hoping you can help me with this one.
1995 Chevy S-10 extended truck
4.3
Automatic Transmission
160,000 miles (heavy high way driving)
Fuel injectedJust had EGR valve replaced (symptoms - car was bouncing between. 800 to 1100 RPM on idle. Felt like at least one cylinder was missing out. I had EGR "cleaned" out just a month ago by service technician).
I just took it in and they replaced the EGR. I had it for 2 days and engine service light came back on again. They are saying now that there is a "pop valve" that has to be replaced at a parts cost of $420. They say they even talked with GM about this.
Service technician is just saying that problem is due to excessive mileage and carbon build up in engine (I had paid them 3 months ago to "de-carbonize" the engine).
Am I getting *@#(*&????
Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JoeA. A "pop" valve? I have never heard of it. I wonder if they are referring to the anti-backfire valve?
If they are then it is possible it is causing the problem you describe. While I have never adjusted one on a GM car, I do know that they are adjustable. I think in this case I would have to defer to the technician who has looked at the car first hand. I would suggest that you get some assurances that this will indeed repair the problem and if it doesn't that there will be some compensation for the repair. It's one thing to spend $420.00 if it fixes the problem, quite another if it doesn't. You should not have to pay for their mistake.
I'm assuming, of course, that they have run a complete diagnostic on the whole engine and that the AFM. MAP, TPS and other sensors are within specifications. These too could cause the symptoms you describe.
