Toyota Pickup Instrument Panel Bulb

Q. I have a 1998 Toyota Pickup with an automatic transmission. Recently the 'D' (for drive) light bulb went out on my instrument panel. How do I change the bulb? Is there an easy way?

Thanks,
Lee

A. Not a hard thing to do. First you have to remove the cluster finish panel. There are three screws and four clips that hold it in. Be careful you don't break it.

After you have it out, there are four screws, one at each corner. Remove them and pull the Combination Meter Assembly out enough to reach behind it and unplug it. There are two or three connectors. Be careful when removing them so as not to damage the printed circuit board.

Then, depending on the layout of your Combination Meter, turn the bulb a ¼ turn counterclockwise and remove the bulb. Some of the Combination Meter bulbs are special types. Take the old one to your Toyota dealer to be sure you get the correct type and wattage.

Then just reverse the procedure to put it all back together.
