Ford Paint Restoration
Q. Please help! I have an 1987 Ford pick up that is in need of minor restoration. I have completed the inside of the truck but the exterior needs more work. I know nothing about paint repair. The body is in great shape but a few spots on the paint need to be spruced up. The hood and top of the cab are very dull along with the top of the bed rails.
I have tried many waxes and rubbing compounds but nothing seems to help. Do you know of any products that will resolve my problem without going through the expense of repainting? The truck is actually for my son who will be driving next year.
Thank you for your time,
JamesA. I'm not much of a body and fender expert. My expertise is limited to one car I painted with the help of a body and fender man. He did let me hold the spray gun once too.
If rubbing compound doesn't do the job then the paint is too far gone. Depending on the size of the areas that need to be done, you could go to an auto body paint shop and they can match up the paint and fill a spray can with the right paint.
I went to PPG and they did a perfect job in matching paint for my touch up jobs.
