Monte Carlo Won't Start

Q. I have a 1976 Monte Carlo. Automatic transmission, 350 cid, lots of miles, but runs great. Brand new battery. My problem is that the car will periodically not start. Warning lights etc all come on, but no sound, nothing. This happens with no warning whatsoever.

Some times it happens two or three times a week and other times it goes for two or three months before occurring. Always, once the car has sat overnight, it immediately starts with no problem at all. Any ideas?

John

A. You could have high resistance in the starter circuit. Check purple wire to starter with key in crank position when it does it. Should have battery voltage. You can also do a voltage drop test on this wire. Could be a bad starter motor, ignition switch or neutral safety switch.
