Jeep Cherokee Radio Problems

Q. Dear Vince, I have a 1987 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with a 4.0 liter straight 6, automatic transmission, fuel injected, P/S, A/C and rack and pinion steering. The truck has 128,000 miles on it. I am having an issue with some sort of short or wiring trouble. My radio started losing sound. It's brand new. I see the equalizer moving but the sound is not getting to the speakers.

Also, when I hit a bump the sounds comes on for a bit then another bump knocks the sound off. I also noticed my interior dash lights no longer go when I put the head light switch on. Also, when I put the left turn signal on it stays on steady and does not blink like the right one. it just seems like my truck is falling in to disarray. I hope I'm not bombarding you with questions but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yours thankfully,
Pete

A. That truck did not come with a graphic equalizer so I think I'm safe to assume that you have an aftermarket sound system in it. If this is indeed the case, your best bet would be to take it back to whoever installed the new radio and tell them what is not working. It is very possible they cut the wrong wires or spliced into the wrong circuit and it is on them to repair it.

Since I do not know what kind of radio or how it is wired, there is little I can do for you.
