Ford Escort Has Some DTC's Showing
Q. Dear Sirs, I have an October 1995 Ford Escort 1.4 liter type F4B engine fabricated in Germany. 150,000 kilometers, manual transmission, fuel injection, ABS brakes. After the engine is warm, some trepidation on the idle running remain (RPM is fluctuating between 800 and 850). I haven't a clear idle! I was to a tester with this car and the computer display the following messages:
- HEGO sensor lean exhaust
- Air flow lower than expected
- Cylinder circuit problems
OBD -II codes wasn't displayed. After that I was to another tester to analyze the exhaust gases. The specialist, after the test, told me the mixture fuel/air is too rich in gasoline. I'm afraid there is a contradiction with position #1 upper. Please tell me what it is means and how could I remedy the problems because here in Romania I could not find, until now, somebody who give me some advice. Expecting your answer,
My best regards,
AdiA. You didn't give me the code numbers so I can't look up the codes. And there are too many to go and try to match them up.
The "Cylinder circuit problems" could be a bad Camshaft Position sensor (CMP) or Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor, Ignition Control Module (ICM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
The "HEGO sensor lean exhaust" could be caused by clogged or dirty fuel injectors, a bad HO2S, a malfunction in the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system, cracked or disconnected Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve or hose, vacuum lines broken or disconnected or a bad Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
I don't know what "Air flow lower than expected" is, but I suspect it may be related to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
I suspect you may have the same problem so many other Ford owners have. To learn more and a possible solution, read:
