Honda Civic Burning Oil

Q. I own a 1993 Honda Civic. Recently I blew a head gasket and had it replaced. The head was not warped put it appears as though some anti-freeze may have escaped into the cylinders and damaged the rings because now the car is burning oil at approximately 1 quart per 500 miles or so.

Is there any product on the market that might help this problem or is a overhaul the only solution. The engine has approximately 80,000 miles on it. Thank you for you time and any recommendations you might have.

A. Before I do anything, I would check and make sure the problem is in the rings. At 80,000 miles it's a little hard for me to accept it is a ring problem, especially on a Honda. It's not inconceivable, but I don't think it's likely.

A wet/dry compression test will tell the story for sure. If it is the rings, and at that rate of consumption, I don't think there are any additives that will help too much.
