Stanza Stumbles Along

Q. I have a 1989 Nissan Stanza with a 2.0 liter engine, automatic transmission with 137,000 miles. It was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago it has fuel injection, P/S, A/C, cruise and rack and pinion steering. Well a couple of days ago it started to run funny.

When you stop at a stop light for a few minutes then give it gas it would die or sometimes it would go or act like it wasn't getting any gas, but it would go. Once it gets going it would run with plenty of power till you stop at another stoplight.

Thank you,
Richard

A. I think the two most likely possibilities here are the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and the transmission ground wires.

Nissan had a problem with the TPS's in their cars and a lot of weird problems were fixed with its replacement. I say the transmission ground wires because you had it in and out and a loose or missing ground wire could cause symptoms very similar to what you are experiencing.
