Questions and Answers

Wax On, Wax Off

Q. Hi, I have a red 1996 Acura Integra which I bought used in January. I live in California, but I have reason to believe that the car is originally from Florida. Anyway, the paint is already starting to oxidize. Years ago, I had products such as Diamond Coat and Ming Finish put on cars with terrific results.

Can you recommend any products that I can put on this car to restore and maintain the finish? I have been looking around the internet, and while I have found many products, I haven't found any (free) product comparisons. Are you aware of any web sites that might give me unbiased information?

Thanks,
Anne

A. Personally, I use DuPont Rubbing Compound and Turtle Wax on my Mercedes. It gives a good hard shine which stands up to our Minnesota winters pretty well. I've used them for years and I have always been pleased with the results. I wax my car by hand twice a year and I compound only when I have to.

I don't know about Diamond Coat, but I do know Ming is still around. There's a Ming not too far from me here in town. They do an excellent job and have a good warranty.

As far as online, unbiased comparisons, I don't know of any free ones.
