Accord Shifts Funny

Q. I have a 1990 Honda Accord DX with 265,000 miles and automatic transmission. It runs fine, starts on a dime. My transmission is as follows gears 1st 2nd 3rd D, 4th D, N, R, P.

First and second act like just first gear and third and fourth act like just fourth gear. So I'm basically manually shifting from first to fourth and downshifting the same way so I don't slip my clutch badly. My mechanic said this could be possibly a solenoid but had no clue? Maybe you could help.

Also my sport and normal button does not have any kind of an effect whatsoever. All fuses looked good. He said my transmission was fine nothing internally wrong but that's all he said. Hope you can point me in a direction and help me out.

Thanks in Advance.
Rich

A. I think you're problem is either in the transmission valve body or one of the shift solenoids. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) can store a DTC that the Honda dealer can pull and make a more accurate diagnosis.
