Stratus Oil Light

Q. I have a 1996 Dodge Stratus, six cylinder, automatic with 98,000 miles on it. The oil pressure light started coming on at low idle (600 rpm). I switched oil weight to 5W-30, which is what the manufacturer recommends, now the light comes on at 1,000 rpm. Oil level okay.

Changed every 3,000 miles. No noise or performance problems. Pressure switch? And where is the pressure switch on a Stratus?

Thanks,
Cliff

A. It could be an Oil Pressure Switch (OPS) but with that much milage on that particular engine, I would like to see a mechanical pressure test done, just to confirm it. You may have the beginnings of an engine or oil pump problem.

The OPS is located just above the oil filter on the oil filter housing.
