Toyota Dash Lights

Q. I have a 1990 Toyota Celica ST, and the headlights work and taillights work, but the instrument lights don't work, and the other lights that go on when the lights are turned on, the ashtray light and the light to show what gear your in. I looked around for a fuse, but I don't see any fuse that says instrument lights. They're are so many fuse boxes and relays on this car.

Thank you,
Robert

A. That's one thing that always bugged me about these cars. Wouldn't it be so much simpler to put everything in one place instead of making us jump all over the place looking for a stupid fuse.

When I want to check a fuse for a particular circuit I check all the fuses. So many times two smaller circuits are combined on one fuse. And quite often there may be two and even three fuses for the same circuit.

Use a 12 volt test light and check all the fuses and replace any you find that are blown. If all the fuses check out, then I would strongly suspect that the dimmer switch is bad. This is common on Japanese cars for some reason. They are inexpensive and easy to replace.
