There She Doesn't Blow
Q. I have a 1995 Ford Escort LX. 1.9 liter, manual transmission, and about 85,000 miles. 2 days ago my vents stopped blowing air. The thermostat works, and some air comes through the vent, but it doesn't actively blow air anymore.
This had happened twice before in the past month but the problem just went away after a few minutes. Not the case this time. Since I have pretty limited car knowledge, I'm more than likely going to have to take her in to a shop. What is your best guess as to what's the matter and do you think that this will be an expensive repair?
Thanks,
RichA. It sounds like the blower motor just died. The brushes inside the motor wear out and it just stops working.
Even with limited knowledge, this is a simple job to do. All you have to do is remove the lower dash panel on the passenger side. Look under there and you will see the blower motor. It has a two wire connector and is held in with three small bolts. Unplug the connector, take the three bolts out and the motor will come right out. Of course I would want to be sure it is the blower motor before I went ahead and replaced it.
A new blower motor from Ford runs about $141.00 and about one hour labor to replace it.
