Ford F-150 Touchy Clutch
Q. I have a 1996 Ford F-150, manual transmission with 77,000 miles on it. its an inline 6 300 engine. I bought it used a year ago and I have noticed it takes a lot of skill to keep the thing from shaking when I take off from a stopped position. I have been driven other trucks with stick shifts and they have a little more give in the clutch.
Is there something I can adjust in the clutch. Maybe if I could adjust the "sweet spot" lower to the floor there wouldn't be so much of a problem. Is my clutch too sensitive or something wrong with it?
A. Ford used a cable operated and a hydraulic operated clutch on that truck. If you have a cable operated clutch, you can adjust the clutch cable under the hood where it comes through the firewall.
If it is hydraulic, then you may be able to adjust the clutch pedal free play under the dash.
