Questions and Answers

Diesels

Q. What diesel model cars are available in the US?

Thanks

A. Nothing like asking an easy question, is there?

When you say cars I'll assume you mean passenger cars and not trucks.

As far as American made cars, GM stopped using diesel engines in passenger cars in 1986 which made all the GM technicians very happy people. Ford and Chrysler never offered a diesel engine in a passenger car. Right now if you want a car with a diesel engine, you have to go imported and most likely German. In 2001 Volkswagen offers a 1.9 liter turbo diesel engine in several models including the Jetta, Golf and Beetle.

The last Mercedes diesel was the 1999 E-300D. As far as I can find, these are the only current models that still have a diesel engine available.
