Uncranky S-10

Q. Hi.. I have a 1984 Chevy S-10 pickup and it will not start. The dome light is on dim. I thought maybe starter but wouldn't it click first and give me a couple starts? My battery is good and the fuses are good. I would appreciate any advice. Does the pickup have a computer in it. I looked for a plug but couldn't find it. Thanks again from a lady trying to troubleshoot.

Thanks,
Patricia

A. With the dim dome light, it sounds like the battery is almost dead. If the dome light goes out completely when you try to start the car, you have a dead battery. You will get some clicks from the starter when you try to start with a weak battery, but if it is almost dead, there won't be enough to engage the starter solenoid so you won't even hear that.

I would get someone to try and jump start the car or put a battery charger on it and see if that gets you going. If it does, then you do have a bad battery and it will need to be replaced. If it doesn't, then you have an electrical problem somewhere that will need to be traced out, found and repaired.
