Mercury Stalling

Q. I have a 1993 Mercury Tracer. The engine is a 1.9 liter, automatic trans, 90,000 miles, fuel injection, P/S & A/C. I have been having problems with my car stalling. Usually it would happen when I got to sppeds around 50 mph. so I had a diagnostic test done. They thought it was my mass air intake sensor. but since I got it back it has been worse. It doesn't matter what speed I am going. I hit the gas and then jerk, jerk, slowly moving, jerk, jerk, sometimes ok sometimes it just isn't getting gas. I push the gas but nothing. It feels bogged down, no power to the engine. the repair shop also said there was another code that came up on the test but they didn't want to find out what it was. They told me to take it to a dealer. Is this a problem worth spending more money on?

A. A mechanic that doesn't want to find out what a code is? That must be a code 666RIP which is "If I tell you this code, I'll have to kill you." If that's the case, I wouldn't want to find the code either.

It sounds a lot like a bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It is also likely that it is a bad ignition module as well. Ford has been having a lot of problems with them and there was a court ordered recall in California.Massive Recall
