Toyota Camry EVAP System Code
Q. Vincent: I have a 1998 Toyota Camry CE 2.2 liter with 81,000 miles. The check engine light came on and off for a while and stayed on. The trouble code is "Evap pressure". The mechanic tightened gas cap with three clicks, I have never tightened gas cap so tightly. Then he cleared the alarm. Three days and 50 miles later the light came back and never went off.
The mechanic suggested me trying to swap another Toyota Camry's gas cap. If it still does not work my car may need a thorough check. I searched internet and found dozens of similar complaints. Most of them paid hundreds of dollars and replaced everything but problems remained. Moreover one website said the garage might do nothing other than reset the light and nobody knows. Can I just ignore it if I don't get worse gas milage? What will the worst result be if I leave it as is?
Many thanks,
TedA. Without knowing what the code was or what part of the EVAP system is effected, I can't give an opinion on consequences or possibilities.
If you take it to a Toyota Dealer, they should be able to pin point the problem fairly quickly.
