Mazda Millenia Lost A Belt

Q. Hello, I drive a 1995 Mazda Millenia. This evening about a quarter of a mile from home, I lost power steering. Immediately thereafter, the temperature went from normal level to extremely hot (in just a few minutes). I don't know if the two are connected, however, both are worth mentioning.

We have checked and there is antifreeze in the car, it was almost full, and the power steering fluid was plentiful also. No "Check Engine" light came on, no troubleshooting lights at all, only the loss of power steering and the car cannot be driven because it is on hot (top of hot, not just hot, but blow up hot).

I did not run over anything or hit any bumps in the road getting home.

We let the car set for awhile and when we turned it back on, the power steering was still not working and after about three or four minutes the temperature went back to blow up hot. All belts are on and are working. Any suggestions? Your comments and expertise would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

A. Jennifer, there's an old saying, "If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck". That's what we have here. You lost the belt that drives the power steering and water pump. This belt would be hard to see from the top, especially if it's missing, but if you look from underneath the engine, you will see where it goes.

That is the only possible explanation.
