Oil Getting Into The Air Cleaner Housing

Q. I have two vehicles that are both experiencing what I think is called "blow by". The air filters are getting coated with oil from the engine. One vehicle is a, 1988 Jeep Comanche 4.0 liter 6-cylinder with MPFI and about 170,000 miles. The other vehicle is a 1994 Land Rover Discovery with a 3.9 liter V-8 with about 120,000 miles. How can I prevent this blow by from occurring?

Oil Getting Into The Air Cleaner Housing

A. When oil finds its way into the air cleaner housing, it is usually due to a bad PCV valve or collapsed PCV hoses. I suggest replacing the PCV valves, check and replace the PCV hoses as required.
