Volkswagen Jetta Fuel Light Flashing

Q. I have a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta GL 4 cylinder. I just recently had an oil change and now my gas warning light comes on periodically. I was wondering if it is because I waited to long to get an oil change and now there is a clog that is blocking my oil to my car. I was wondering if this is something that I can fix with a simply engine flush.

Please help,
Amanda

Volkswagen Jetta Fuel Light Flashing

A. Amanda, please do me one little favor? Please? I ask nicely. Don't ever take your car in for an engine flush. I have seen too many engines get destroyed because of it. And the fact of the matter is, it is not needed.

Not one single vehicle manufacturer in the world recommends it and if a dealership, mechanic or quick lube says they do, they are outright LYING! The only one who recommends an engine flush is the companies who sell the flush machines.

Anyway, the gas light has nothing to do with the oil change. That is a function of the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank. That light should go on when there is less than 7 liters of fuel in the tank. On some models the Fuel Level Sensor is adjustable and on others it's not.

There is probably a wire that rubbed through in the fuel tank area that is making it flash. Or it is possible the Fuel Level Sensor itself is bad.
