Olds Bravada Hard To Start

Q. I have a 1994 Olds Bravada with a 4.3 liter Vortec (CPI). It just recently became hard to start. However, once running it idles and accelerates fine. Hopefully by the time you read this e-mail, I will have checked the fuel pressure which I understand, from a recent article, should be 58 to 60 psi.

Olds Bravada Hard To Start

I have worked for the Robert Bosch Corp for the last 17 years, in Anderson SC, where we make Fuel Injection systems. So, I have a little more than a grasp of the concept. My next instinct would be to see if perhaps I am leaking inside the manifold. Any other suggestions?

Sincerely,
Phil

A. From the symptoms you describe, I would check the fuel pressure regulator first for leaking down when turned off. If it is leaking, it won't be long before you see a Check Engine Light for a rich mixture.

There is a intake manifold "tuning valve" that can be removed so you can get a look down inside manifold plenum with a good flashlight to see. GM parts make the whole CPI unit as one piece, you can't get the regulator separately.
