Mercedes Benz Door Light

Q. Dear Mr. Ciulla, I am an Executive Assistant to the President of my company, and he has asked me to make an appointment for him to take his 1992 Mercedes station wagon (I think it's an SE 320) to a mechanic to have the left, rear passenger door light fixed. Apparently, the light on the door stays on constantly. This results in draining the battery.

Is there a simple way to correct this without having to take it into the shop? Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
David

A. Since the door switch completes the circuit ground and since the light stays on, I would say there is a short to ground somewhere between the light and switch. It is possible the door switch itself is bad and that would be the first ting to check. If you take the door switch out and unplug it and the light goes out. You found the problem. If it remains on, then the problem is in the wiring, probably inside the door itself.
