Chevy S-10 Blazer Blows White Smoke

Q. I have a 1988 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4.3-liter 4x4. My question is I have white smoke that comes out of my tail pipe. It does it a lot when I first start it up, but after about 30 seconds it goes down. There is still a little white smoke coming out. Is this something I should worry about and what could be doing this so I can get it fixed?

Thank you for your help!

Chevy S-10 Blazer Blows White Smoke

A. Are you adding any oil between oil changes? Valve seals will give you smoke on start-up. Sometimes the oil returns can clog in the cylinder heads and let oil fill up above the valve seals. If you remove the oil fill cap and can see oil standing in the valve cover they are clogged. Also coolant can cause this. You need to monitor the oil and coolant to see if the level drops over time. If not, don't worry about it.
