Datsun 280-Z Headlights

Q. Hello: I can't fix the headlights. I have a 1977 Datsun 280Z. I checked the fuse box. It's okay. I switched the switch for the headlights and it's okay. I checked the headlight bulbs and they are okay. I did a voltmeter test on the red wire, the hot one, where it goes to the back of the fuse box.

I did not get a voltage reading there. I tested each of the fuses at the fuse box, and I am able to get a voltage reading on all the fuses except the headlights fuses, the two there one for left and right headlamps. Both headlights went out on me at the same time.

Maybe it's an open somewhere in the electrical system. Maybe a relay or a wire that electrically connects both headlamps, there is an open. What could it be?

A. Under the hood on the right side of the engine compartment, near the strut tower you will see two white plastic covers. remove the covers and you will see the fusible links. One of these, I forget which, supplies power to the fuse box for the head lights. When you check then, check the connectors in the boxes as well. They may be corroded also.
