Chevy Lumina Euro SES Light

Q. Dear Vincent Ciulla, I have been reading your auto repair information for a while. I find it very helpful. I have a 1992 Chevy Lumina Euro 3.4 liter DOHC V-6 engine, automatic transmission, power steering with 168,000 kilometers. I bought it two weeks ago. The car was fine, but the "Service Engine Soon" light comes on some occasions and when I restart the engine it sometime goes off.

I checked the code and it was 32 (OBD I), EGR problem. Lately, I was driving it in downtown, it stalled twice. Once when I was trying to turn left, and once on traffic signal. The coolant temperature was a little higher than when driving on highway, but the fans seemed working fine.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,
N.S.

A. A code 32 can be caused by a bad EGR valve, vacuum lines to it or electrical wires. If it's a digital valve, even a ECM could cause it. As for the stalling, maybe a vacuum leak or low idle speed.
