Whining Blazer

Q. I have a 1995 S-10 Blazer. My problem is a whine that comes from what I think is the transmission. This only occurs when the truck is in gear. It almost sounds like a power steering pump whine but its coming from underneath the vehicle. I've replaced the transmission fluid and filter every 30,000 miles.

There is currently 65,000 miles on the vehicle. I do tow a boat with this vehicle and also have added a transmission cooler prior to any towing. Could you tell me are there any additives I can add to the fluid to take this annoying whine away? The truck shifts fine and runs great! It's just this sound! Will I be in transmission trouble soon?

David

A. I have heard this whine in the Blazer before and most times it is just annoying. Now not having heard the particular noise in your truck, I can't say for certain that it is nothing to worry about.

The noise I am familiar with comes from the transmission oil pump. Replacing the pump eliminates the noise. There is nothing you can put in the transmission to get rid of it. I would take it to the dealer or a transmission shop and have them listen to the noise and let them determine the origin of the whine.
