Chevy Cavalier Hot Starter

Q. I have a 1991 Chevy Cavalier, 2.2 liter engine,100,000 miles, and standard transmission. My problem is that when this car has been running for a while and you shut it off, when you want to restart it, the starter will be totally dead, not even a click. Everything else works. Let it cool off and everything is fine again.

Thanks,
Richard

Chevy Cavalier Hot Starter

A. Most likely the starter motor is bad. There are a couple of other things it could be so a tech needs to measure voltage at the purple wire of the starter solenoid when it won't start. If there is voltage (12 volts) this would indicate that voltage is getting to the starter and it's bad. No voltage at this wire means a bad clutch safety switch or ignition switch.
