Nissan Pathfinder Remote Keyless Entry

Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder with 98,000 miles. A few weeks ago the remote control start with problems for lock and unlock the doors, one day is not working anymore. I replace the batteries in control but nothing happened. The extrain is start very slowly at not working, the security system is working and the key lock is working too. Do you know what happened? Maybe a relay?

Thank you so much...

A. First thing to do is to make sure the power door locks work. You can do that by locking and unlocking the doors using the power door lock switch on the main door switch. If they lock and unlock, then we have a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) problem. If they don't, you have a power door lock problem.

Next, try to reset the transmitter ID code in the RKE module.

NOTE:

  • If you need to activate more than two additional new remote controllers, repeat the procedure "Additional ID code entry" for each new remote controller.
  • If the same ID code that exists in the memory is input, the entry will be ignored.
  • Entry of a maximum of four ID codes is allowed and any attempt to enter more will be ignored.

If all this still doesn't get it working, you probably have a bad Smart Entrance Control Unit. You should have your Nissan Dealer confirm this for you.
