LeSabre Climate Control Problem

Q. Mr. Ciulla, my question regarding my car involves my A/C unit. I have a climate control system and after the first cycle has completed, the system shuts down the compressor (the fan is still on). It will not turn on the compressor again when the temperature of the cab raises.

Sometimes I can trick the system in reactivating the compressor by changing the thermostat desired temperature from cold to hot, then changing it back to cold. But, this does not always work. Sometimes, I can pull over shut down the engine and then start again, but again this does not always work. I have checked the Freon level (pressure) and it is okay.

The output temperature will fluctuate between 48 and 65 degrees, depending on the demand. I can tell that the system is adjusting the temperature as the fan speed will change accordingly.

The only constant is if I keep the temperature setting down very low, it will not cycle off, but it gets extremely cold. Any ideas on what I can check?

A. These are pretty complicated systems. You really need a service manual for this repair. There is a electronic control unit with many relays and vacuum switches in it. Also a few sensors inside the car that tell this unit when to cool and heat.
